Privacy Policy

Working draft. This document describes how the site currently behaves. It has not been reviewed by a legal adviser and must be checked against South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act before launch.

This policy explains what personal information the Taste South Afrika website collects, why, and what happens to it.

What we collect

We collect only what you type into a form and choose to send:

  • Newsletter: your email address.
  • Contact form: name, surname, email, optional phone and organisation, enquiry type and your message.
  • Vendor application: business and contact details, location, business category, a description of what you make, an optional link, registration status, optional file uploads and any notes you add.

The site does not use advertising trackers, does not build a behavioural profile of you, and does not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

Why we collect it

To reply to your enquiry, to assess a vendor application, or to send you the newsletter you asked for. Nothing else.

Files you upload

Logos and product images submitted with a vendor application are used to assess and, if your application succeeds and you agree, to present your business. They are not published without your agreement.

Storage in your browser

The site itself sets no cookies. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and the restaurant spotlight pages embed a Google Map showing each restaurant's location. Both are provided by Google, a third party with its own privacy practices, and the map may set Google cookies when it loads. See the Cookie Policy for details.

Your rights under POPIA

You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, and withdraw consent to marketing at any time. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe option. To exercise any of these rights, use the contact form.

How long we keep it

Enquiries are kept only as long as needed to deal with them. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Vendor applications are kept for the duration of the programme cycle they relate to.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the change will be reflected on this page.
